Since 2021, Verdun has committed to supporting tree planting with every window we manufacture and install. In 2025, our partner Flash Forest planted 70,000 trees in the Assinica region of Northern Quebec with Verdun’s financial support. But the numbers tell only part of the story. Behind those 70,000 trees is a partnership with Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation, a rigorous scientific approach to reforestation, and a deep commitment to transparency. This year’s impact report reflects that journey.

What Flash Forest accomplished with Verdun’s support in 2025

With Verdun’s financial support, Flash Forest completed:

  • 70,000 trees planted in Assinica, Northern Quebec, a region devastated by the 2023 wildfire season
  • 8.5 million Jack Pine seeds collected locally by Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation and Flash Forest teams in extreme -30°C conditions
  • 457 hours of employment for Indigenous community members—from seed collection through planting operations
  • Less than 5 months from cone collection to first tree in the ground, despite unprecedented seed shortages
  • Drone technology deployed to plant trees without heavy machinery tearing through sensitive Cree territory
A man looks down at the tree he's planting in a serene forest.

Understanding the carbon impact

Flash Forest projects that Verdun’s 70,000 trees will sequester approximately 30,800 tonnes of CO₂ over 100 years, based on Natural Resources Canada’s CBM-CFS3 carbon model.

To put that in perspective: during Quebec’s 2023 wildfire season, the fires released nearly four times as much CO₂ as global aviation that same year. Our trees are beginning a century-long process of drawing some of that carbon back down.

About the methodology
The CBM-CFS3 model is developed and maintained by Natural Resources Canada and complies with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) standards. The model is defensible under Canadian competition law related to environmental claims and aligned with the methodology Canada itself uses for official climate reporting.

Learning as we grow

Not every tree succeeded as expected. Some planting sites experienced delayed germination due to warmer temperatures and less rainfall than historical averages. This is the unglamorous reality of reforestation work. Flash Forest will return in the fall to measure actual seedling progress and will continue monitoring for years. Read Nordik’s (the exclusive manufacturer of Verdun Windows) Flash Forest full 2025 Impact Report for the complete story, including what went right and where we learned.

Why this matters to Verdun

Verdun commits to planting one tree for every window we manufacture. This is our way of contributing to forest land restoration. We pair it with our high-performance RevoCell® technology, which reduces your home’s heating and cooling emissions for decades. Together, these initiatives represent concrete actions for meaningful environmental impact: reduce emissions at home, restore forests in the regions that need it most.

Flash Forest’s partnership with the Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation is equally important. Drones mean no bulldozers on Cree lands. Local seeds mean trees adapted to that landscape. Indigenous employment means economic benefits stay in the community. This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when environmental action is guided by respect for Indigenous rights and genuine community benefit.

What’s next

The 2026 planting season is underway. Verdun will continue to report annually on tree- planting progress.
