Bay Windows: Enhance and Enlarge Any Room
A bay window (also referred to as a bow window) is a window space projecting outward from the main walls of a building and forming a bay in a room, either square or polygonal in plan. 90, 135, and 150 degree angles on the inside corners of these windows are common. Bay windows first achieved popularity in the 19th century Victorian architectural movement in San Fransisco, and have remained popular for their ability to enlarge any room and greatly increase the flow of natural light in any home or building.
Bay windows are three sided as you essentially have three windows. One that is parallel to the walls inside, and two that come off the side of the front window that are each angled inward toward the interior of a home. Installation can add 2-3 feet of length to a room. Width is dependent of the size of windows installed and the angles of the two slanted sides. The area created by adding this type of window is called a “bay,”
